Week in my life–day 2

Another grey miserable day!  Although there were plenty of grey clouds scudding along, we didn’t get any rain today.

My morning dog walk:

I am fascinated by this crane on the building site on the seafront!  I’d love to go up and sit in the little control cabin and make the big arm swing round!

Along the prom into town

This hotel ‘The Beach’ is being demolished.  It was a 1940s style building and a bit of a Worthing landmark.

Back home along some back streets trying to keep out of the wind!

Back from dog walk, I’m drinking coffee at the laptop on the kitchen table, Merlin has plonked himself on my bedroom floor!

Back into my routine this week, housework on a Tuesday.  A little collection of frames that I bought to ‘pretty up’ my bedroom.  Only just got round to putting the smaller picture in!

Aquazumba class at lunchtime.  No, I’m not showing you a picture of me in my cozzie!  Here’s the aftermath, towel and cozzie on the line to dry.

I had to go to the dentist in the afternoon as I’d had toothache for a while.  Turns out I have to have a root canal filling, YEUCH!  I decide to drive rather than cycle so I raided my change jar for money for the car park:

Dog walk in the evening.  Our town is having water meters fitted to every house, here’s the sign in the next street along.  It’ll be our turn soon.

Week in the Life

I am participating in Ali Edwards week in the life again!  I so loved doing it last summer, and it’s great to do it at a different time of the year.  I do expect my routine to be somewhat similar though, not much has changed in my life!

Yesterday was a wet, miserable day, so not a good day for photography!  But I took my little pocket camera with me and took these:

I forgot first thing, so didn’t take my camera with me on my dog walk, but here he is afterwards!  He should really be lying on his mat that you can see in the middle of the floor!

Too wet to garden, so I stayed inside and did too much computerising!

The weekly grocery shop!  Still pouring with rain.  I forgot to take my credit card wallet with me!!  Luckily I had done a small shop and just about had enough cash in my purse to pay!

The weather cheered up a bit later on, but not until I had got soaking wet cycling to CAB!  There have been some wonderful skies recently, with towering clouds and bright blue in between.  (Tip: if you want to take a photo like this you have to expose for the white cloud, otherwise it blows out and you lose all the detail)

Dinner was salmon with loads of veg:

And then we went for a rather damp and cold dog walk along the seafront:

Spring in my garden

My ‘garden a day’ hasn’t been so constant this April.  There have been many wet days, a very welcome drop of rain, as the soil was very dry.  Here’s a few photos I took in the sunshine yesterday:

Then as evening drew in large clouds appeared in the sky:

Time Management

I’ve been participating in a time management class over at www.simplify101.com.  The first week’s task was to log my time for 1 whole week.  This time, (I’ve already taken the class a couple of times before) I managed to keep up with logging for the whole week fairly accurately.  So here’s a pie chart of my week:

image

Some notes:

  1. Computer.  I broke this down into the various things I do on the computer.  By far the most time was checking and posting to forums and message boards.  Other things I did: emails, finances, photos, shopping, scrapbook challenges (Shimelle) and looking at blogs
  2. Dog walking.  2 dog walks per day, usually about 2 hours per day.  That’s quite a bit of exercise!
  3. Housework.  Surprised how little time I spent!  Includes laundry, bed making, vacuuming, grocery shopping.
  4. Hobbies.  Wow!  I didn’t realise I spent that much time!!!  This week did include my scrapbook crop on the Saturday which is 8 hours including travel.  Includes scrapbooking, sewing, writing and gardening.
  5. CAB is Citizens Advice Bureau, my voluntary work.  Interesting and pleasing that I spent 3 times more on hobbies, and almost double on dog walking!
  6. Misc includes errands, phone calls, seeing Mum, coffee with friends.
  7. Grooming and exercise is showers and 2 exercise classes, Pilates and Aquazumba!  Both are fairly new to me, but I am enjoying them immensely!
  8. Evening is getting ready for bed and reading.  Also includes 3 hours TV.  I don’t watch much TV, but when I do I usually am sewing while watching, so that time is in hobbies.
  9. There’s not much time dedicated soley to family members!  That’s because DH and I go for the evening dog walk together every evening and we usually sit down together about 9pm for TV (and my sewing).

Interesting to see how my week panned out! Looks like quite a good balance.  Now I wonder how long it’s taken me to do this analysis!!!

Finishing off 2 sewing projects

I love finishing off projects!  I set myself a goal to finish at least 2 sewing projects this month, and here they are:

I wanted to have a go at cathedral window patchwork, and found a pattern at www.sleepingbear.co.uk to practise with.  I was so pleased with how they turned out that I made this cushion:

The ‘insides’ of the window are made with scraps left from Mum’s quilt, and I was so glad I found the green spotty fabric for the border.  Not sure where it came from, but it looks fab on my sofa!

How about this seascape?  I started this a few years ago with some charm squares I bought from eBay.  I added in some ideas I had from a quilt show at Sandown., and just generally added bits as I went along.  No pattern!  I think it looks a bit like snakes and ladders!  And it is my first free machine quilting on a project.  I’ve decide to call it finished now and may hang it on the wall in my downstairs toilet!

Oh what a lovely feeling to have these finished!  Off to look for some more UFOs!!

A Page of the Day and a Town Walk

Yesterday I went to my monthly scrapbook crop in Brighton.  Each month we have a theme and we all vote for the ‘page of the day’.  Yesterday’s theme was Dance.  My original idea was to scrap some old photos of Lucy in her ballet outfit practising her pointe in the lounge.  But I can’t find them on the computer!  I wasted an hour or more on Friday trying to find them.  So what to do?

Flicking through some photos in my ‘garden’ category I found these photos of fuschias.  They always remind me of little ballerinas!

Sketch by Shimelle (of course!) from her pretty paper party class, and notice the ink spray – that’s something I don’t do very oftenSmile.  I am happy to say this won our page of the day competition!

We decided to do another ‘town walk’ this morning.  Before we ventured out the sun was shining and there were fluffy little white clouds in a blue sky – perfect for photography!  Unfortunately, by the time we arrived in Steyning a little town a few miles to the north of Worthing, the clouds were more grey than white, and there was less blue sky showing!  Consequently, my photos aren’t the best I have ever taken!

Steyning has some gorgeous old buildings, here’s some views of the High Street:

We love this pub!  It’s one of a few old fashioned pubs that hasn’t been turned into a bijou resturant.  It does do food, we were very tempted by the Sunday Roast £10 for 2 courses, but I already had a roast dinner planned at home today.

Like many market towns in Britain, there are lots of cute shops like this:

And of course, we had to walk down Dog Lane!

We ended our walk in a lovely park where Merlin had a lovely run, and drunk our flask of coffee, and ate hot cross buns.  Lovely!

Here’s the scrapbook page….

I made with the photos of my bunch of spring flowers.

I am loving Shimelle’s glitter girl videos, and this page takes inspiration from this video.
