Christmas preparations are well under way here. I like to be as organised as possible before December starts. So far, I have started to make some gifts for friends (more on these later), and have bought my Christmas cake ingredients. Then yesterday we went to a big Marks and Spence store nearby and bought a few gifts.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the mail I received these cute vintage children's patterns. I am intending to frame some of them and sell them on my Etsy shop. I have been procrastinating on this and am therefore sadly a bit late for this Christmas!</div>

This morning I have been out for a walk around some local gardens and coffee with my oldest friend (that is, the friend I have known for the longest time, not that she is old!). We met at high school, so have known each other over 40 years! She is a really keen photographer, so we wandered around slowly and took loads of photos. There is still a little bit of autumn colour around, although it has not been wonderful this year.</div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "open sans", verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Yesterday was our wedding anniversary - 39 years! </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: "open sans", verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;"> So, appropriately as we were married in the 1970s we went to see a concert with 1970s popstars! 'Legends Live 2017' at the Brighton Centre was fantastic</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: "open sans", verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">. </span></div>

<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "open sans", verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">First was Hot Chocolate - it is surprising how many hits they had! Their 'new' lead singer was very good and sounded like Errol Brown. The whole audience got on their feet when they sang 'You Sexy Thing'! </span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "open sans", verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "open sans", verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Then the Osmonds - just Merrill, Jay and Jimmy. Pleased to see Jimmy as he is very well known over here. They came on blasting out 'Crazy Horses', brilliant! Their performance was perhaps a little clinical, they might slightly overdo the professionalism, but still very enjoyable. I must admit that the Osmonds were not really my cup of tea back in the 1970s, so I was surprised to find myself seeing them play live!</span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "open sans", verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">After an interval David Essex came on. He is 70 now but can still sing! (A lot of the ladies were there for him, when he sang 'Do you want to be my wife?' all the ladies in the audience shouted YES!) His best song was 'Oh What A Circus' from Evita. He is a brilliant musical singer! </span></div>

I wore mostly different clothes each day, really because I wanted to try everything I have made rather than that be my normal routine. There were things I wore more than once (Cleo pinafore dress and brown shorts), and there were things I didn't wear at all.<br />

I made lots of connections on Instagram. I am now following lots of 'new-to-me' sewists, and have new followers myself. I love Instagram!<br />
<br />
May is a great month to choose for a 'Me-Made' month as the weather usually improves through the month, and here in the UK we are putting away our Winter clothes getting out our Summer wardrobe by the end of the month.<br />

Looking at me 'Me Made Wardrobe' I realise that I sew with lovely colourful patterned fabric. I am really happy when I open my wardrobe doors now and see the colour in there. But... if I want to wear all 'Me-Made' I should sew some plain coloured basics, eg jeans, skirts, t-shirts to go with it all. I know that I am not alone in this - I see this in most reviews I have read! <br />

The idea is to take 3 photographs that are linked in some way. Here's 3 I took on my dog walk yesterday up to Highdown Hill. I love walking along paths through trees in the Spring with the dappled sunlight and bright fresh greens<br />

You take one sheet of double sided paper and cut it up as per a template, and use the pieces to make lots of cards. <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/search/pins/?rs=ac&len=2&q=one%20page%20wonder%20cards&eq=one%20page%20wonder&etslf=3733&term_meta[]=one%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined&term_meta[]=page%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined&term_meta[]=wonder%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined&term_meta[]=cards%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined">Here</a> it is on Pinterest.<br />
<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We tried it at our Christmas crop with a 6 x 6 paper, and each made 4 cards, which we then gave to each other. This template gave sketches for placement of the pieces of paper. You can then add your own embellishments and sentiments.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We really enjoyed that, so we decided to big things up a bit and go for a 12 x 12 sheet of paper, and we used this template.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWFj2x01NgTTuHo3ZY0JKaE8VHkJPfnF7i8I1_3E-AIcfNq7YJVYvqHq4fXRdOwjzaPZII1wRWTS-IKkFiWsGd5rg6fxAI-MTpLjD_ry0yH-MDgi4JCLIIyJE0wracJQPT5ApfKTTO9G9F/s1600/P1020489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWFj2x01NgTTuHo3ZY0JKaE8VHkJPfnF7i8I1_3E-AIcfNq7YJVYvqHq4fXRdOwjzaPZII1wRWTS-IKkFiWsGd5rg6fxAI-MTpLjD_ry0yH-MDgi4JCLIIyJE0wracJQPT5ApfKTTO9G9F/s640/P1020489.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I used a sheet from a stack of papers from Studio Calico, called Sundrifter. This sheet is Pocahontas. It has feathers on one side and is pink with polka dots on the other. You can see that I favoured the feather side! I loved the look of the cards where the papers had been matted, so found a pack of coloured papers that I had bought from the Range, which as it happened looked beautiful with this paper! I made 16 cards this time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I borrowed a feather die, and cut several feathers from the plain papers. Some have a 'Happy Birthday' sentiment, some I left plain so I can use them for another occasion.<br />

I love how they turned out! I haven't made any cards for a long time, so now I have a nice pile to choose from when I need one. I think I will do this at Christmas - just got to find a nice double sided Christmas paper.</div>

I am back to report that I have a new camera, and I am all inspired to take more photos again! My old Nikon SLR is over 10 years old now, (and it was an old model when we bought it!), and is so heavy to lug around over my shoulder. I wanted a lighter camera that was a bit better than a 'point and shoot'. My new phone has a fairly decent camera for that. So we went into Jessops, and had a really lovely assistant who spent ages with us looking at the small mirrorless cameras. I chose the Panasonic LX100, as it has a decent size sensor, and lots of dials and buttons for manual adjustment. It looks a bit retro in the silver too!</div>

It has its first outing up to London on my birthday on a really sunny Sunday in March. We were headed for lunch in the Shard! Here's some photos:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Shard is the tallest building in London. We were headed for the 32nd floor for the restaurant, about half way up.</div>

My crafty friends Burnice and Tash bought me a china decorating workshop for my birthday! You will know that we like a workshop. This one was run by Elaine at<a href="http://www.madeandmaking.co.uk/workshops/prod_3020233-China-Plates-tiles-mugs-and-more-Various-Dates-and-Times.html"> Made and Making</a> in Ditchling, East Sussex.<br />
<br />
WE had the choice of a plate, a small tray or tiles. Tash and Burnice chose the plates, I chose the tray. We were able to choose from lots of pretty transfer papers. You cut out the shapes you want, then soak the paper in water and the transfer slips off the backing and sticks to the china. Easy!<br />
<br />
Here I am tracing off the beach hut shape. I chose 5 different patterned papers and then cut them up and rearranged them on the tray.<br />
<br />

We had a great day, and are all keen to go back and do a Christmas plate later in the year!</div>

Burnice was supposed to come too, but unfortunately she had a fall and broke her shoulder so can’t sew at the moment. We went to <a href="http://www.larasparks-embroidery.co.uk/index.htm">Lara Sparks Embroidery</a> just a few miles from me. Lara makes lampshades and cushions with her distinctive coastal, meadow and homely scenes. We had seen her at a craft fair back in the Spring and decided to spend the money we would usually have spent at Sandown Quilt Show on the course.</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t2_aaAKpHoM/WDRUj0L8rvI/AAAAAAAAT0c/ocIPmnaFAxE/s1600-h/20161112_143120%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="20161112_143120" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20161112_143120" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mb5zGqt1ERQ/WDRUk70_roI/AAAAAAAAT0g/XT_hA7fVJow/20161112_143120_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="285"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nygopRYt6ZU/WDRUl4IbmiI/AAAAAAAAT0k/-MHw4CEYUVk/s1600-h/20161112_143150%25255B13%25255D.jpg"><img title="20161112_143150" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20161112_143150" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-l2h2PKeV22k/WDRUmu_2vrI/AAAAAAAAT0o/4BwL85dJ-OY/20161112_143150_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="285"></a></p> <p>Lara’s workshop is in her lovely home and is filled with lampshades, pictures and cushions that she has made and shelves overflowing with fabric! After a bit of practise we were encouraged to decide on whether we wanted to make a lampshade or cushion, and to look at her stencils to decide what scene we would like to embroider.</p> <p>I chose the pier scene. First I drew round the stencil onto my linen to get the basics of the pier, then began to embroider! It is such fun! It doesn’t matter if you go a bit wobbly – in fact, it looks better if you do! I did each section of the pier at a time, embroidering the shape of the buildings, and then the understructure and legs of the pier. Next, I chose some fabric to make the domes of the buildings. They were fused on to the linen and then embroidered to make the lines of the roofs and to keep them on! Lara is a fantastic teacher, keeping a watchful eye on us at all times! She drew the big wheel and roller coaster for me, which I then embroidered. Final touches were the blue lines of the sea and a few seagulls.</p> <p>Tash chose to do a lampshade with foxgloves and bluebells, and she did more applique that me. There were 2 other students there, one of whom made a lampshade with grasses, and the other made a cushion with flowers and seed heads. Lara was really keen that we had a finished product to take home so spent extra time with us showing us how to make up our lampshades and cushion.</p> <p>Here is Tash’s lampshade being tested with a lamp.</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ZiKA5JixDVA/WDRUneS40AI/AAAAAAAAT0s/quDF-FpPJuc/s1600-h/20161112_163652%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20161112_163652" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20161112_163652" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ijvoUkd0WU0/WDRUoTLS9RI/AAAAAAAAT0w/eHZAKDE4OW4/20161112_163652_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="254" height="448"></a></p> <p>And here’s mine, in pride of place on the sideboard in my hall. At street level it is a very nice cafe and gallery, but go downstairs to the basement and there you will find classrooms for all sorts of art and crafts! </p> <p>Have you ever done silk screen printing? I hadn’t and had no idea what it entailed! </p> <p>First we drew our design on paper, being careful not to make it too small or draw a shape within a shape, such as an ‘O’.</p> <p>Next we cut out the design with a scalpel. Here’s mine. It is supposed to be grasses and seed heads, but I think I took her advice not to make it too small too literally and made the cut out bits too big! I think it looks like fireworks now.</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jC4R6EOJKA0/WCivr_OMtfI/AAAAAAAATzA/2pkvUwfTV9w/s1600-h/20160925_143251%25255B12%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160925_143251" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20160925_143251" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VDIaOc_A2OQ/WCivshVEhgI/AAAAAAAATzE/1f8B4uMaNWA/20160925_143251_thumb%25255B9%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="122" height="215"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PI3EnKSl8SE/WCivtSg1McI/AAAAAAAATzI/9KkCyH2Yk2I/s1600-h/20160925_150528%25255B15%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160925_150528" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20160925_150528" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n6-IMSm6eUI/WCivuPDEhnI/AAAAAAAATzM/d2_m7-wr42A/20160925_150528_thumb%25255B12%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="383" height="217"></a></p> <p>Then came the fun bit! Place the fabric down on plenty of paper, then the stencil, then the silk screen. Pour some paint on at the top of the screen, and draw it down over the screen with a window wiper. Great fun!</p> <p>Here’s Burnice doing her pink heart.</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5Ov29-HU9P0/WCivunWKIVI/AAAAAAAATzQ/uDRqR7Ob1U8/s1600-h/20160925_152853%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160925_152853" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20160925_152853" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TGO8c9LAgPE/WCivvTyb-dI/AAAAAAAATzU/YV68zh0uiQo/20160925_152853_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1dmgFdIURH8/WCivwB78gXI/AAAAAAAATzY/RzIkqqvtAac/s1600-h/20160925_153921%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160925_153921" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20160925_153921" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xBOjs2wO9mY/WCivwrgA0kI/AAAAAAAATzc/rnLoaKc3pH0/20160925_153921_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a></p> <p>And mine as I lifted up the screen and stencil.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL163FV0iLGRxbx7gtUE4FpozwoXlcip6vuV__Zh6lSf4a4YFXKEc92-N_QqsNxRkEfbEtkC8KBoXxYHx35JwuRK_NiSKpkxFTDD4YtB31a1o32aX10EY8JPrcjxg2k44EFJdhfOCz8DxL/s1600-h/20160925_160515%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160925_160515" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20160925_160515" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Y5b2oe-M8R0/WCivyUr1t5I/AAAAAAAATzk/9iQz95hMHg8/20160925_160515_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a></p> <p>Tash did a chicken.</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MrzMxyV3HEI/WCivzKtYRJI/AAAAAAAATzo/saOm7pdKWpo/s1600-h/20160925_161327%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160925_161327" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20160925_161327" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YntMMmmOa70/WCivzztK5tI/AAAAAAAATzs/t6LWNAMpAnc/20160925_161327_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a></p> <p>We decorated a tea towel and a linen bag.</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vv4pmkNZN6g/WCiv04bzy7I/AAAAAAAATzw/O01ZYDglX-0/s1600-h/DSC_9471%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_9471" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_9471" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3s5DIS9tiEM/WCiv1jIQfDI/AAAAAAAATz0/ok_x0yefB8k/DSC_9471_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="337" height="504"></a></p>Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-64602548985559549372016-10-25T02:41:00.003-07:002016-10-25T09:04:32.122-07:00My (not so) new Craft Room<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I’ve been meaning to show you my new craft room all year! We decorated and
bought the furniture back in the Spring, and I even took photos back then.
Anyway, without further ado, here it is.<br />
<br />
It’s nearly 2 years since our son moved out to live in his own flat, so of
course I purloined his room as my craft room! It is so nice not to have the
dining room cluttered. It is easy to clear up now if someone is coming for
dinner. Here’s what the dining room used to look like, with craft stuff piled up in
all 4 corners of the room:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="file:///C:/Users/Linda/AppData/Local/Temp/OpenLiveWriter498817950/supfiles335A2A65/DSC_8378[8].jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="file:///C:/Users/Linda/AppData/Local/Temp/OpenLiveWriter498817950/supfiles335A2A65/DSC_8381[4].jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="file:///C:/Users/Linda/AppData/Local/Temp/OpenLiveWriter498817950/supfiles335A2A65/DSC_8380[12].jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="file:///C:/Users/Linda/AppData/Local/Temp/OpenLiveWriter498817950/supfiles335A2A65/DSC_8376[4].jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="file:///C:/Users/Linda/AppData/Local/Temp/OpenLiveWriter498817950/supfiles335A2A65/DSC_8377[4].jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="file:///C:/Users/Linda/AppData/Local/Temp/OpenLiveWriter498817950/supfiles335A2A65/craft%20005[4].jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="file:///C:/Users/Linda/AppData/Local/Temp/OpenLiveWriter498817950/supfiles335A2A65/craft%20004[6].jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgeQO7M24jXbJIwRRSrLu_-78nOsIl4h7eS3wMD3M1jQdxgELx1N-4kVTiN_F0PEVgsQO69JcVPcfy_CCBro1-Cgn26MbGrh59UGxEK6-BAawjWDXuvnvhK_vZmjCFo7gpDyqRRn1HQu3Y/s1600/craft+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgeQO7M24jXbJIwRRSrLu_-78nOsIl4h7eS3wMD3M1jQdxgELx1N-4kVTiN_F0PEVgsQO69JcVPcfy_CCBro1-Cgn26MbGrh59UGxEK6-BAawjWDXuvnvhK_vZmjCFo7gpDyqRRn1HQu3Y/s640/craft+004.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
I still sew on the dining room table, but most of my craft stuff is now
upstairs, either in my craft room or on the big Ikea unit on the landing.<br />
We decorated the spare room , after having some plastering done on the
chimney breast wall. We painted the walls white, and bought white furniture from
Ikea.<br />
Here’s my work desk, joined on to 2 4x2 Kallax units. I am not sure that I
really have them organised the best for scrapbooking, but it is nice having
everything within reach! The first column of cubbies house my Etsy shop
patterns and other goods for sale. The curtains are from Next.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7wBZ36mId9v4amhG8hPyKWTK8ZUCJouH8pamTTcDSXSxrMiMZ40MlIzvoUWNxs26eAR8WRFMyNTlgfWySgJKqiF9GrE1Sug_buMVxKKGKDwOyKuzK4ZxXYRg9ITSFmmLmeEg_XKqNJBjq/s1600/DSC_8377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7wBZ36mId9v4amhG8hPyKWTK8ZUCJouH8pamTTcDSXSxrMiMZ40MlIzvoUWNxs26eAR8WRFMyNTlgfWySgJKqiF9GrE1Sug_buMVxKKGKDwOyKuzK4ZxXYRg9ITSFmmLmeEg_XKqNJBjq/s640/DSC_8377.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Going around the room, this is the chimney breast wall with a small wardrobe from Ikea which houses my out of season dresses and my dressmaking fabric stash. The table is our old kitchen table, with cardboard drawers which hold cardstock and paper scraps. Underneath the table are the vintage patterns I have yet to upload to my Etsy shop.<br />
<br />
The gorgeous picture on the wall is from an Etsy shop. My daughter bought it for me for Christmas. (Sorry I can’t find the link to the actual shop now)<br />

It started off not with Boot Camp at the gym (as is usual on a Saturday morning), but queueing up at the doctors for my annual flu jab. So of course, as the weekend wore on, my arm began to get that heavy feeling you get afterwards. If that’s the worse I get then I am thankful. A small price to pay for not getting a nasty bout of flu this winter. </p> <p>There was a short walk to the post office to post some sales from my Etsy shop, followed by our first visit to the new Costa coffee shop in our local parade of shops. The unanimous verdict is that it is very good! We had a lovely long facebook call with daughter Lucy, who is working in Connecticut, USA for a few weeks. She has been helping out at a local fair, ‘seeing the real USA, with tractor pulling and pumpkin competitions’! They got her directing the traffic! Not sure that was a good idea seeing as they drive on the other side of the road!</p> <p>Sunday saw me sewing up a storm! But, first a dog walk and coffee. <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I3rNrvoq3kA/V_uBtZl-CSI/AAAAAAAATsU/6UFlV87hwYo/s1600-h/DSC_9551%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_9551" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_9551" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2vusZNXKkiE/V_uBuci8w0I/AAAAAAAATsY/zIXkVpiHD5E/DSC_9551_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a></p> <p>We have put our patio table and chairs away for the winter, so it’s Sunday morning coffee in the summer house now.<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WV7qjAVl8-E/V_uBvbUcmKI/AAAAAAAATsc/ttOpRxnQrHE/s1600-h/DSC_9549%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_9549" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_9549" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N8oqvvKqZqA/V_uBwLai25I/AAAAAAAATsg/2L5HZOOxlLc/DSC_9549_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a></p> <p>I made some bunting from vintage fabrics to sell on my Etsy shop, and continued with my dress. </p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VLiEHqtP3sA/V_uBxIYgPcI/AAAAAAAATsk/yEEdlS-44xI/s1600-h/DSC_9576%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_9576" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_9576" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--nlVGuxY5ug/V_uBx64RkMI/AAAAAAAATso/ZedQdX_e2sA/DSC_9576_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a> </p> <p>I then cut out a skirt with this lovely autumnal fabric. </p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PqKUBmRF8Lc/V_uBzPrkcTI/AAAAAAAATss/48wEPy5zyPM/s1600-h/DSC_9577%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_9577" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_9577" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y46VydDwjwQ/V_uBzo696mI/AAAAAAAATsw/2MaxKJI1Jv4/DSC_9577_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>And then of course, it was a Strictly sort of weekend! We are loving Strictly Come Dancing, this season. Some great dancers!</p>Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-44410738626277485632016-09-20T12:49:00.001-07:002016-09-21T06:48:21.542-07:00Rinda’s Scavenger Hunt–Adventure in the Rocky Mountains<p>We spent 2 weeks in August motorcycling round the Canadian Rockies! We were on a guided tour,so that meant everything was booked up for us, including rental of motorbikes, hotels, etc, and there was a back-up van for our luggage! We met some great people on the tour and saw some awesome scenery. </p> <p>I decided to try and do the Scavenger Hunt while we were on our trip. I didn’t get them all,but here’s what I did get:</p> <p>1 a wild heart</p> <p>2 foot print or paw print. There must be a paw print somewhere in this quilt- mustn’t there?</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-njD70g-KPVE/V-GRk6hodmI/AAAAAAAATpY/KPAkdgXQAnc/s1600-h/20160827_213349%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160827_213349" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="20160827_213349" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eWKezHvn2hU/V-GRoH50EcI/AAAAAAAATpc/xB8hpYzbhMk/20160827_213349_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a></p> <p>3 skeleton bone or x-ray</p> <p>4 book or magazine read in 2016</p> <p>5 porch or deck. We were lucky enough to have lunch on the patio/deck at Banff Springs Hotel, and the weather was perfect! Must be one of the most scenic places in the world to have lunch!</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dCeciBPG1to/V-GRsO0R2TI/AAAAAAAATpg/vv5M2-iE-jw/s1600-h/20160824_142833%25255B13%25255D.jpg"><img title="20160824_142833" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="20160824_142833" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OiS1h6cwR70/V-GRu0THv0I/AAAAAAAATpk/dblYtqRcwlQ/20160824_142833_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="285"></a></p> <p>6 camper or RV. HAPPY NEW YEAR! A look back into 2015, and forward to 2016<br />
<br />
Hope I am not too late in wishing you all a very Happy New Year! I hope you
have all had a relaxing and peaceful Christmas. We had a lovely time
celebrating with friends and family, and now I feel rested and looking forward
to what 2016 brings!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUP_6sx-KgdZkkkW8N92XZFLLLwAL2PJYsh7nAE6JZnBULKRxFdzcl_jCXIx68UuhAh9lmALlyCjT5BRShCNdk0_QkHh_uxJ38qecfvG-h9-TH7GZj7N_-aXguldTmiIJIwMG0_4easNtK/s1600/DSC_7961.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUP_6sx-KgdZkkkW8N92XZFLLLwAL2PJYsh7nAE6JZnBULKRxFdzcl_jCXIx68UuhAh9lmALlyCjT5BRShCNdk0_QkHh_uxJ38qecfvG-h9-TH7GZj7N_-aXguldTmiIJIwMG0_4easNtK/s640/DSC_7961.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is Christmas morning. Lucy wanted the little plastic drawer set for her
cupboard, so we filled it with presents instead of her stocking. Nicholas had a
loft ladder, so that he can get up in his enormous loft, and you can see it
under his pile of presents!<br />
<br />
Looking back on 2015, my word ADVENTURE served me well, with 3 big
adventures!<br />
<br />
Holiday in Australia and New Zealand – a holiday of a lifetime and overcoming my nervousness of
flying.<br />
<br />
Welcoming our new puppy Barney into our lives – putting in the time to train
him.<br />
<br />
Setting up my Etsy shop selling vintage sewing items – and making some
sales!<br />
<br />
Looking forward to 2106, I’d like to build on these 3 adventures, and so I
have chosen 3 words: GROW, DEVELOP and FLOURISH.<br />
<br />
I am in the process of going through some exercises in a little book on Life
Coaching to enable me to get a better understanding of what I want my life to be
like, and therefore write some goals for 2016. I will keep you posted!<br />
<br />
Have you chosen a word for 2016?<br />

Tash (who organised my advent box) insists that it is a reindeer! I can see that you might think that it is a reindeer as it has a red nose, but I’d really rather they were doggie! What do you think? (By the way it’s lip gloss in the little gingerbread man!)</p> <p>Talking of doggies, it was a ‘trying to keep our little dog quiet’ sort of weekend after his little op last week – not easy when you’re a springer spaniel!. It was the gym friends dinner. They were both very enjoyable. I didn’t take a picture of my me-made Christmas dress, but here’s a picture of the salmon I ate!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nHpZSXWGK2k/VlyP-LSH3jI/AAAAAAAASU4/K0lsUqwV-C4/s1600-h/20151128_220216%25255B1%25255D%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151128_220216[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151128_220216[1]" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wJFCHeTdmCE/VlyP-xw2N9I/AAAAAAAASU8/b5aP-SxUOIM/20151128_220216%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="254" height="227"></a></p> <p>It was a fun with flat packs kind of weekend, with 3 Ikea items built. My craft room now has 2 Kallax units, one with a desk, and a small wardrobe. I can’t wait to get it all organised! I’m sure I will spend many a happy hour in there! Pictures to come later.</p> <p>It was a present wrapping kind of weekend. My 2 craft friends and I decided to do the ‘advent parcel’ again, 1 present for every day in December. So I have been buying and making 24 little presents for Burnice. She has done Tash’s an Tash has done mine. More to come on that later!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4r9hh4Kx3-I/VlyP_xRK66I/AAAAAAAASVI/Tgdb_b0L-Gc/s1600-h/20151129_153013%25255B1%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151129_153013[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151129_153013[1]" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XCfE3Z1VPfw/VlyQApb5z9I/AAAAAAAASVM/ERuxiogrEYc/20151129_153013%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="254" height="448"></a></p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-71380762829140976192015-11-24T06:52:00.001-08:002015-11-24T06:52:45.738-08:00Me on a Monday (on a Tuesday!)<p>It was a cold, frosty weekend. The first cold snap of this autumn always feels the coldest doesn’t it? Saturday blew in with a cold, cold wind, BRRRRR! </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VBbbhxKfP6A/VlR5X8r49CI/AAAAAAAASKk/NmrUXiQwuUg/s1600-h/20151118_120715%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151118_120715" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151118_120715" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JluQqC-kfzI/VlR5al0YffI/AAAAAAAASKs/IGQg15eDlI8/20151118_120715_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a></p> <p>Time to bundle up in my newly made vintage style scarf. I actually knitted it! (I don’t do a lot of knitting)</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6nTspIrlpCE/VlR5dSEppHI/AAAAAAAASK0/6z5PeUDlVd8/s1600-h/20151122_092705%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151122_092705" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151122_092705" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3c5EHHHICCE/VlR5fsLd5uI/AAAAAAAASK8/AvqpdMi7CPc/20151122_092705_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KPbbNmz2a1E/VlR5imi4cNI/AAAAAAAASLE/nVOO3bf2Z-s/s1600-h/20151122_092743%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151122_092743" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151122_092743" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HQ35LUR5sWU/VlR5lYfvuxI/AAAAAAAASLM/P1A9g1Sj4G4/20151122_092743_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RG7iLGIzPmc/VlR5rZfe1SI/AAAAAAAASLU/IJmPPxc8uwQ/s1600-h/20151122_092730%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151122_092730" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151122_092730" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeols29m-WFkCiA-ys2IMt3d8DaKhkQrEUF5eX2eArTH8RImmeRcX0qz4WjPiy9wy_jThKg4fpjcbgOJsiezia9_a0um9Amg_kPDCb0A0wOmAfN_lJp6y9hlc5Mfx8USCBBbCGTeQZWrrf/?imgmax=800" width="568" height="380"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>On Sunday it was less windy, but bright and frosty, so we took Barney for our favourite walk on the downs behind our town.</p> <p>It was a shelf fixing sort of weekend too! The shelving is going up in my new craft room! The Ikea order is due on Friday, so hopefully some pictures next week! </p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-20628008134253283162015-11-20T09:07:00.001-08:002015-11-20T09:07:32.025-08:00Diabetes Awareness Month<p>November is ‘diabetes awareness month’, so as a fairly recently diagnosed diabetic, I thought I’d give you some info about this disease.</p> <p>People with diabetes cannot control the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. We require glucose for energy, and a hormone called insulin allows the glucose to enter from the blood into the cells in our bodies. Our bodies have some fantastic mechanisms, and one of them is blood sugar regulation.</p> <p>We get glucose from the carbohydrates we eat. In a non-diabetic, two hormones; insulin and glycogen work to stabilise the amount of glucose in the blood. Normal values are between 5 and 7 mmol of glucose per litre of blood.</p> <p>Insulin is produced by the pancreas, and acts like a key, letting the glucose in the blood gain entry into cells to be used for energy. When blood glucose rises, eg after eating carbohydrates, the pancreas produces more insulin and the excess glucose goes into the cells. If the blood sugar drops, there is another hormone called glycogen, that causes the liver to release some of its stored glucose. <p>In type 2 diabetes, the receptors on the cells do not work properly – they do not recognise the insulin, so glucose cannot enter the cells. The pancreas works harder to create more insulin and eventually 'tires' and stops producing insulin all together. <p>In type 1 diabetes, the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin (beta cells) are attacked by the immune system, and there is no insulin produced. Type 1 diabetics always have to inject insulin. <p>There are over 3 million people with diabetes in the UK (29million in the USA). By far the majority – 90% are type 2. <p>I am a type 1 diabetic, so not producing insulin. I have to inject insulin 3 or 4 times per day. Insulin comes in 2 forms:</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CHDmeE1En-I/Vk9TKCy-i2I/AAAAAAAASH8/eBXmiioNayM/s1600-h/DSC_7947%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_7947" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_7947" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jvN4fxmUF8I/Vk9TM3Xz6WI/AAAAAAAASIE/JEoe41ytvDo/DSC_7947_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a></p> <p>Basal insulin. One injection per day of long acting insulin, a kind of background insulin that counteracts the liver’s own production of glucose.</p> <p>Bolus Insulin. Injected at each meal depending on amount of carbohydrate consumed.</p> <p>I use this ‘Multiple Dose Insulin’ regime, but some people have a pump, permanently attached which drip feeds small amounts of insulin constantly, more like the pancreas in a normal person. </p> <p>There is always the possibility of the blood sugar going outside the ‘normal’ range, especially as other factors can affect the blood sugar too, such as activity levels, illness, stress and alcohol.</p> <p>Hypoglycaemia. When the blood sugar goes below 4mmol/l, it is called a ‘hypo’. Hypos can be a bit scary, as you can feel quite unwell, sweaty, dizzy, jittery, nauseous, confused. (A bit like when you’ve had too much coffee) You need to treat the hypo as soon as possible by consuming fast acting carbohydrate such as fizzy sugary drink, jelly babies, dextrose tablets etc. If not treated, it can become a medical emergency as you can slip into a coma and die.</p> <p>Hyperglycaemia. When the blood sugar goes high, ie above 7mmol/l, it is a ‘hyper’. If blood sugar is constantly above 7, the risk of complications gets much higher. There is also the risk of DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis), a nasty condition where the blood gets acidic and you can become very unwell very quickly and require hospital treatment.</p> <p>Consequently, I have to check my blood sugar at least 5 times per day, by pricking my finger and using a drop of blood on the test strip that goes in the meter.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VFX1xYxkqss/Vk9TRQX0GoI/AAAAAAAASIM/XcY-ECt6alE/s1600-h/DSC_7949%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_7949" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_7949" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WoXz4pDshOM/Vk9TT63wRNI/AAAAAAAASIU/nIrKgxRcqzI/DSC_7949_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a></p> <p>I always carry a blood sugar meter and hypo treatments. Right now my choice is jelly babies! </p> <p>The risk of complications such as blindness, heart attack, stroke, nerve damage leading to amputation and dementia increases the longer the blood sugar is above normal range. </p> <p>Many diabetics are finding that a low-carbohydrate diet helps, and some type 2 diabetics have been able to reverse their disease with this diet plus exercise. I have been trying to eat low-carb, but it is difficult! At the moment, I am eating some carbs, as I am still trying to stabilise my blood sugar, as I have not been using MDI for long. </p> <p>It is an emotional rollercoaster. From shock at first diagnosis that I have a life long medical condition, to fear about the future and the complications, to sheer desperation that I can’t seem to get my blood sugar levels right, and depression for the sheer slog of having to think about it all the time.</p> <p>But… there are worse diseases to have! I can continue my life reasonably normally, I still exercise, I still drive, I can still do all my crafts. I am grateful for that, and that Insulin was discovered and it keeps me alive. I am grateful too that I became diabetic in my 50s and haven’t had it all my life. It must be really hard if you have a small child with type 1 diabetes.</p> <p>Do please let me know in the comments if you have any questions and I’ll try to answer them. I don’t claim to be an expert, but it’s amazing how much I do know about the disease now!</p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-62128413022354330122015-11-18T02:05:00.001-08:002015-11-18T02:05:30.229-08:00Storm Barney<p>It seems that we in the UK are naming our winter storms just like they do hurricaines and cyclones/typhoons around the rest of the world. This despite the fact that they are no where near as forceful! Anyway, we had storm Abigail (A-BIG-GAIL LOL!) last week and then Storm Barney rolled in from the Atlantic last night! We had winds of 50+ mph here, not too bad where we live. The only damage was a bit of roofing felt blown off the shed roof. The news has just told me that the midlands have had some disruption, so hope you are Ok where you live.</p> <p>But, we know about Storm Barney here!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9e01IxkkM0E/VkxNXSXvbmI/AAAAAAAASFU/kO4ztOAN6zQ/s1600-h/DSC_7875%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_7875" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_7875" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9l7Dc9iFt7Q/VkxNYVPPsHI/AAAAAAAASFc/59X_JNsNk-U/DSC_7875_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zIBLQFuTbgc/VkxNZeXtmpI/AAAAAAAASFk/sJV8yVnFKEU/s1600-h/DSC_7910%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_7910" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_7910" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AlMuT2puy5A/VkxNaaUBSGI/AAAAAAAASFs/UfD5DES0oz0/DSC_7910_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a></p> <p>This little pup has stormed into our lives like a whirlwind! He is nearly 8 months old now and very teenage! You can almost see the hormones racing around his body!! The puppy training books tell us to be consistent and keep on top of his behaviour. We’re trying – but it’s hard work!</p> <p>As I sit here typing he is yapping at me. We have been for a walk and play in the park with the other dogs, he should be SETTLING down now.</p> <p>Oh the mud! He has furry paws that trail mud through into my nice new kitchen! When I try to clean the floor, he chases the mop around, and if I leave him outside, he yaps and jumps up at the back door. (I hope the neighbours can’t hear me as I shout like a mad woman at him to ‘LEAVE IT’.)</p> <p>We are trying hard to get him to walk to HEEL. But being an inquisitive little pup, he is distracted by other dogs, people walking towards us, people getting in and out of cars, birds, squirrels, leaves blowing, shadows and sometimes it’s just a feeling!</p> <p>He jumps up to the worktops and people, despite us us telling him OFF every time! I have muddy paw prints on the doors and worktops! Luckily they wipe off easily.</p> <p>BUT, he did come back to us when we blew the whistle. We have been training him to a dog whistle, and this was the first proper RECALL. </p> <p>Lucy and I gave him a bath the other night which went very well. He looked all lovely and white and fluffy again. </p> <p>He is a very friendly little dog, always wanting to say hello, and will sit and be stroked or brushed for a long time.</p> <p>I wouldn’t be without my Storm Barney!</p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-43604310155473347792015-11-16T02:03:00.001-08:002015-11-16T02:03:15.194-08:00Me on a Monday<p>Joining in again with <a href="http://fromhighinthesky.blogspot.co.uk/">Sian</a>!</p> <p>It was a ‘welcoming Lucy home again after her 2 week business trip to USA’ sort of weekend. We enjoyed hearing her stories over a couple of glasses of wine. She has been decorating her bedroom, so it was a shopping weekend (the best!). We shopped on Saturday for curtains, lampshade and bedding for her room, and curtains for my new craft room. Then on Sunday we shopped at Ikea for chest of drawers for her room, and desk and shelves for my craft room. Sadly, the packages were too big for our car, so we have to have them delivered. But we did enjoy our day! It’s quite a drive to Ikea, we go to Southampton, which is just over 1 hour away if the traffic is good.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5HbnvdruQW8/VkmpuOi6UYI/AAAAAAAASDo/W_o_2PlOt_Q/s1600-h/20151116_092908%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151116_092908" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151116_092908" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qq4BZcSkTtg/VkmpwouyOPI/AAAAAAAASDw/PmgrsEbLaXw/20151116_092908_thumb%25255B13%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="347" height="414"></a></p> <p>It was a ‘making a bigger mess before it looks tidy’ sort of weekend! A thai meal at a lovely restaurant in the town centre, where the waiters do a little bow to you as they serve the delicious, colourful food!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-u_uRAgGrcQM/VkDamTfzEmI/AAAAAAAAR_Q/4axnu4QC1iQ/s1600-h/20151106_201637%25255B17%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151106_201637" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151106_201637" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BzIc4kE2vIY/VkDapP6LeTI/AAAAAAAAR_Y/MAtf2QU0thY/20151106_201637_thumb%25255B19%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="294" height="438"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aV1cyQ5hmLY/VkDareR2H1I/AAAAAAAAR_g/_M0f4rqSqQg/s1600-h/20151106_201707%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="20151106_201707" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20151106_201707" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Np1PfENWekM/VkDatUWCtPI/AAAAAAAAR_o/SJ8Z_XkO1gg/20151106_201707_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="247" height="436"></a></p> <p>It was a family weekend, with BIL and SIL coming down from Scotland for a visit, dinner out and a roast dinner on Sunday with the other BIL too! We all trooped along to MIL’s nursing home. I think she appreciated the visit, but perhaps found us all at once a little overhwelming.</p> <p>I also had time for my scrapbook crop on Saturday. More on my 1970s album later! I have been scrapbooking my childhood photos, and reading old teenage diaries for the journaling. </p> <p>I’m sorry that it wasn’t a very photographic weekend. I completely failed to take any photos of the family or at scrapbooking!</p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-61318063726925887142015-11-04T02:32:00.001-08:002015-11-04T02:32:14.256-08:00Unplugged!<p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PapayiLogKA/VjneUeqdQcI/AAAAAAAAR9E/9UPhxwsaXmU/s1600-h/unplugged%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="unplugged" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="unplugged" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OTTFVcow5l8/VjneYeIJRKI/AAAAAAAAR9M/DgguRCwuQqM/unplugged_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="489"></a></p> <p>This quote I saw on Facebook this morning really spoke to me! I know this works if our wifi is on a go-slow, we are always unplugging it! </p> <p>It’s made me think about what I do to unplug myself. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FPjSiGOIJy4/VjneaiTMP3I/AAAAAAAAR9U/jR_X-fiLgik/s1600-h/20150920_092245%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="20150920_092245" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="20150920_092245" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1UEsVX4NWfs/VjnedDFRsiI/AAAAAAAAR9c/7_MwJgVufCQ/20150920_092245_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="285" height="504"></a></p> <p>At the moment dog walks are not stress free as we are still trying to get Barney to walk to heel, and he is prone to running off. The little black dot in this picture is him! I’m sure in the future dog walking will be a good unplugging!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-P5tCU1a3soA/VjnegtimBZI/AAAAAAAAR9k/peWOC4Pbeb8/s1600-h/DSC_7933%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_7933" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_7933" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q-kQOZhyoZ8/VjnejKGcB0I/AAAAAAAAR9s/jpJSttLD6vs/DSC_7933_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a></p> <p>I unplug in the evenings by watching tv for an hour or so with something to do with my hands, simple crotchet for example. Here’s my latest blanket, the Mixed Stripe blanket from <a href="http://www.littlewoolie.blogspot.com">www.littlewoolie.blogspot.com</a> </p> <a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BjOSDrfYnRk/VjnenlzsxtI/AAAAAAAAR90/mLzluXBIjeM/s1600-h/DSC_7777%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_7777" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_7777" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RTCg8DAO1Ww/VjneqliCe2I/AAAAAAAAR98/VvKPTGU0juk/DSC_7777_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="337"></a> <p>And there’s gardening! A recent study has found that people with allotments are much less stressed and healthier. I’m guessing that works for gardens too. My routine is to take Barney outside for about 1 hour each lunchtime and I garden, he likes to dig with me! It’s nice when he just potters about. The fresh air does us both good!</p> <p>What do you do to unplug?</p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-87271384686621565752015-11-02T01:58:00.001-08:002015-11-02T01:58:42.156-08:00Me on a Monday<p>Here I am joining in with <a href="http://fromhighinthesky.blogspot.co.uk/">Sian</a>’s Me on a Monday for the first time!<a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9Q8OZxO3mxU/Vjczw5dk_GI/AAAAAAAAR7c/xWoYJMjSRMo/s1600-h/DSC_7915%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="DSC_7915" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="DSC_7915" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KQHqW6yvAZM/Vjczznbv85I/AAAAAAAAR7k/1M8uV3_iPWc/DSC_7915_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="504" height="310"></a></p> <p>It was a spooky, pumpkin carving sort of weekend. A gathering of sweet things to offer any trick or treaters – not one ghostly person came! (Not so many young children in our street now, they’ve all grown up!) But the Halloween Strictly Come Dancing made up for it, love the costumes, the glitter and the glamour! Do you like my doodled pumpkin? Thanks to <a href="http://paperturtle.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/pumpkins-get-mandala-treatment.html">Deb</a> for the inspiration!</p> <p>It was a painty sort of weekend - we finished off painting my new craft room. We have decorated Nicholas’s old bedroom, and it looks fab! Now I need to sort out furniture, shelving etc. More on this later!</p> <p>And it was saying goodbye and bon voyage to daughter Lucy, who flew off to America for a 2 week business trip. I’m missing her already!</p> <p>How was your weekend?</p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-878481047602599730.post-64187686096497599232015-10-23T02:53:00.001-07:002015-10-23T02:53:09.871-07:002/3rds of the way through–no longer a lurker!<p> </p> <p>No longer a lurker on people’s blogs, I have come out of the closet and am commenting left, right and centre! I am 2/3rds of the way through my 300 blog comments in 30 days. I’ve just written my 200th comment! Here are some of my thoughts so far:</p> <p>Positive:</p> <p>I have left lurkdom behind! In the past, I did not comment on many blogs that I visited. I hardly ever commented on sewing blogs, especially the more well known ones. I guess I didn’t feel confident to comment, not worthy of their greatness in the online sewing community, and anyway they already got loads of comments! Since I plucked up the courage to comment (and subscribe to their comments), some of them have commented on my comment, ie communicated with me! Not only that but lots of people I’ve left comments for have been back to visit me! It’s a two-way communication, and that makes me very happy. No more lurking for me!</p> <p>I’ve found lots of new-to-me blogs that I will go back to have a longer look. I’ve mostly found them through blogs I know, for example, Julia’s <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.co.uk/">Stamping Ground</a> WOYWW. I took part in an online blogging course some years ago, and have followed a few of fellow participants through the years. Now I have connected with the others in that little community. </p> <p>Through <a href="http://itchifingers.blogspot.co.uk/">Sandie’s blog</a> I have found <a href="http://www.saraharrow.co.uk/">30 days of blogging</a> challenge. I have signed up for the 30 daily emails. I can see that it is aimed at businesses, but am hopeful that I can use some of the ideas for my photo blog, as well as my Etsy business <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SewLindyLou?ref=hdr_shop_menu">SewLindyLou</a>. That will be November’s challenge!</p> <p>I have realised what I like in a blog post. Not too long (some of the sewing blog posts are really long when they write about a particular pattern and how they made it up.) I really like crafting blogs. I’ve looked at some gardening blogs, but I don’t find them as compelling as paper crafting or sewing. I also like to get to know the blogger, so a few personal details and what they’ve been doing is great. I particularly love the memes like ‘Pairs’ on <a href="http://helenascreativemaven.blogspot.co.uk/">Helena’s blog</a> and Me on a Monday on <a href="http://fromhighinthesky.blogspot.co.uk/">Sian’s blog</a>. Watch out! I’ll be joining in next month!</p> <p>There is some fabulous inspiration out there! I have noted some dressmaking patterns and fabrics that I would like. There are some great sites with sketches and inspiration for my scrapbooking. I have discovered some wonderful art journallers (through WOYWW) and really want to try it out for myself. I am thinking of including it in my goals for next year, and maybe do an online course.</p> <p>Now for the negatives:</p> <p>Boy, does this take up a lot of time on the computer!!! I have followed my usual blogs a lot of the time rather than always finding new blogs, as this has saved me time. When I visit a new blog, I like to take some time to look around and read a few blog posts. Sometimes I haven’t commented, for example, if the blogger hasn’t blogged for a while. 300 blogs in 30 days is 10 blogs per day, and there have been many days when I haven’t commented at all, especially at the weekend.</p> <p>This means that I have been feeling behind all the time! Even now, it’s the 22nd and I have only made 209 comments. So even today I am 11 behind! And feeling behind is stressful!</p> <p>Consequently I haven’t done many of my own blog entries! I did a post about my quilts on <a href="http://sewlindylou.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/quilting.html#comment-form">SewLindyLou</a> because I was leaving comments on quilting blogs, and a post about Barney to keep my photo blog going. I’m hoping to rectify this and start to blog much more regularly from next month on, especially with my 30 days of blogging challenge.</p> <p>I need to find a way for people to follow me! Somebody asked me how they could follow me, but I don’t know! I think I will have to look into Bloglovin’, in fact I think I did register on there a while ago. I am a little bit lazy when it comes to technology. Something to put on my to-do list, along with learning about the statistics available.</p> <p> </p> <p>It just remains for me to say ‘thank you’ for all the return comments you have made on my blogs, and I hope that we can continue communicating. That’s what makes me happy!</p> Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00006686534903023371noreply@blogger.com12
