A visit to London

I went to London last Wednesday to meet up with an old friend.  We met when our oldest children were babies at a mother and baby group.  I still meet with Angela and Sarah, but Lene moved away about 14 years ago!  We’ve not seen her much since so we decided to meet up in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Here’s Lene and Angela

And we gave the camera to a passerby so I could be included:

And here’s one of my favourite things we saw, Adam Ant’s ‘pirate’ costume from the 1980s!

Weekend jobs

I planted some daffodils and primulas  in the spot that we cleared a few weeks ago, right under the dining room window.  That’s a forsythia in the background.  Shame to have cut it down at this time of year!  But I have enjoyed a few flowering twigs from it indoors.

There’s quite a few big clumps of snowdrops nearby.  I will split them when they have finished flowering, ‘in the green’.

Meanwhile, Maurice is washing the car!

Nice to have clean mats!  They are usually very muddy from dog walking.

Ice hockey

I’ve always wanted to see a real live Ice Hockey match!  Well, last night I got my chance!  We went to see Guildford Flames v Sheffield Steeldogs in the English Premier League.  It’s a fast, furious and exciting game, with lots of argy bargy (sadly, no fights, but then we are British!)

Guildford won the game 5 goals to 1.  It’s amazing they get any goals!  The gola is tiny compared to the goalie with all his gear on!

RIP Debbie

Me with Debbie c 1975

My ‘little’ cousin Debbie died last week.  So sad.  She was only 44 and leaves a husband and 2 adopted teenage daughters.  It is her funeral tomorrow.  I expect there will be lots of people there.  She was very popular.

I didn’t know her as an adult, but as children we were close.  In the late 1960s and  early 1970s, Aunty Margaret and Uncle David used to come and stay at the seaside with their 3 children, Debbie being the youngest.  I was never much of a girly-girl and rarely played with my dolls, but when Debbie came they all came out along with clothes and accoutrements! I have very fond memories of those times.

When I got married in 1978 Debbie was my obvious choice for bridesmaid.  She was 13 and looked beautiful!  12 years later when she got married she had Nicholas, aged 2, as a page boy.  He looked dead cute in mini top hat and tails, but boy did he hate it!

Rest in peace Debbie.  It will be a sad day tomorrow.

Happy Birthday! (and LOAD days 6 and 7)

Today is Maurice’s brother John’s 60th birthday and my brother’s wife, Lynda’s 50th birthday!!!  Really odd, but although I knew they shared a birthday, I hadn’t realised they were 10 years apart before now!!  Yesterday, we celebrated with John, by joining him and  and family and friends in a gorgeous country pub in the depths of Kent.  We had a great time!  Here’s me with John:

We’re off to see Lynda tonight for a glass or two of wine (hopefully!)

LOAD day 4

This is a page for my ‘52 walks’ album, photos of many of the walks we went on last year.  Some of them are on my other blog.  I managed about 48 in total, not too bad!  There are a few duplicates, such as Ferring beach.  Merlin and I love to go over there.  We drive about 10 mins, park the car then we walk along the greensward.   Merlin is off the lead all the time running up and down the stones and in the puddles!

Sketch from Creating keepsakes magazine, Sept 2010, page 98, Stacy Cohen.  It’s great using sketches and minimal supplies, makes it all so quick!

Lucy and LOAD day 2

lucy 001

Lucy started her new job today. Hurrah!  She is receptionist/office manager for a small pharmaceutical communications company.  Here she is ready to go!  Good Luck Lucy!  Let’s hope this is the beginning of a wonderful career!

We went shopping yesterday for new clothes.  I don’t know what they wear in offices nowadays!!  In my day we were power dressing, suits with big shoulder pads!  (Yes folks, it was the 1980s!!)

LOAD 211!

LOAD (layout a day) begins today! http://www.layoutaday.com/layout-a-day-211/

I quite fancy the idea of doing a layout every single day, so here’s the challenge – just for February.  Lain Ehmann’s site gives tips and inspiration with an email message every day to keep me going.

I have cleared my desk/table, and have 1 box of patterned paper offcuts, and another box filled with embellishments I want to use up.  I have an album with photos slipped into page protectors (it’s my 52 walks album from last year, now organised to have 1 LO and 1 page of photos in 6 x 4 divided page protectors), and another pile of photos I might fancy scrapbooking, mostly of the kids when they were little and oh so cute!

Here’s my first offering:

craft 397

It’s a photo of me with my brother and SIL, Lynda.  I was inspired to scrapbook this photo because she is 50 next week!  This is one of the nicest photos I have of them both, and it was taken at my 50th birthday celebration back in 2009.
