The Tale of the Lost Blanket

I had a go at scrapbooking some old holiday photos yesterday.  It was May 1996, the school was on half-term holiday so we decided to take Nicholas (7) and Lucy (4) to the Isle of Wight for the week on the train.  We stayed in a little old fashioned B&B with evening meal in Sandown, just a few streets away from the lovely sandy beach.  Despite a mixed bag of weather, we had a lovely time!

It’s a big project of mine to scrap all our holidays.  A few years ago I took all the photos out of the old ‘sticky’ albums and used these albums from Arrowfile, who also sell lots of different inserts or page protectors to go in them.  So it’s another take on Project Life!

The big story of the holiday that I want to tell you today is

‘The tale of the lost blanket’!

Lucy had a little yellow blanket that went everywhere with her and she would clutch it in her fists while sucking her thumb, a proper comfort blanket.  You know the sort, it got dirty, torn, and gradually got smaller and smaller until there was just bit of the satin border left!    We weren’t quite at that stage at this point, the blanket was still whole and intact.  But, when we got home, we realised that she had left it in the bed at the B&B!  EEEK!! What to do?  We had to buy a new blanket quick, so she could have it for bedtime, and after a bit of telephoning round, luckily the big department store in our town had the exact same blanket in stock, PHEW!

The proprietor of the B&B, Mrs Jessop found the blanket and returned it to us in the post a few days later. So then we had a spare one just in case it happened again!   So a happy ending to my story Smile

I am linking up with Sian for Storytelling Sunday

I'm so glad you were able to replace the blanket, and the old one turned up too. My brother had a blue bear that he took everywhere, and he lost it on a ferry once, but we managed to trace our steps and found that too!

Hi Linda, thanks for sharing your story with us today. It's a great one! The link you added seems to be leading back to my blog rather than yours, so I have lifted it out and added the right link in at the end of the list for you. I hope that's okay :)

Isn't amazing how much small people get attached to their lovies and how much work we're willing to do to reunite them together? Glad it had a happy ending!

How great that you found a 'spare' blanket in the shop! It's brilliant you are scrapping all your old photos, I need to do that with mine too. The holiday looks like it was great fun :-)

Awww bless. My sister had a blankie too, and it was yellow. Jasper had a "sucky vest" and we made sure he had 3 or 4 interchangeable ones just in case one got lost or needed a wash!

Phew, it all ended well! Aaaaah, those blankets… My little bro had the same issue. We always had to triple check so we wouldn't leave it behind anywhere…

My DD used to love sucking labels on teletubbies, we had real traumas when they got lost! Well done on finding a duplicate blanket

Great story Linda. I love your layouts and the combination of protectors/pages that you are using. What fun to be getting your older photos scrapped.

Love your LO's Linda, and glad to hear Lucy's blanket was found. We left Alexander's "pooh bear blankie" in the Florida Keys, what a disaster! I never managed to get the same one and it was never returned {sad face}. Still he was a little trooper and got attached to the new one we bought him when we got back home!

Glad you found a replacement. My cousin left hers in a taxi in a city far from home while transfering between airports. Needless to say by the time she arrived at our house she was still devestated and it took her days to get over it!
